Many studies show that our lifestyles influence the quality of our immune response (our ability to fight infections). Here are the habits to be avoided if you do not want to get sick this winter.
When we know that 80% of microbes pass through the hands, we understand the importance of washing them properly and regularly!
To not get sick, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 40 seconds, in particular:
- Before and after eating
- Before and after cooking
- After being in the bathroom
- After touching an object that may have been touched by other people (subway bars, shared computer, door handle…).
Even if bad eating habits do not systematically cause illnesses, they strongly favour them.
In addition to the serious illnesses that a bad diet can cause in the long term (diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease…), in the short term, there are also winter diseases!
To avoid colds, flu and other inconveniences of the winter season, eat healthily, by focusing on fruits and vegetables, protein, good fats: Omega 3-6-9, garlic and onion and drink plenty of water.
Sleep too little.
Our body regenerates and repairs during the night, which is why it is important to have a good night’s sleep. You have to be in shape to not catch all the viruses that hang!
According to a study published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine in 2009, people who sleep less than 7 hours per night are 3 times more likely to catch a cold than those who sleep at least 8 h.
Cortisol, a hormone that is produced in response to stress, can cause a weakening of the immune system: the body becomes more susceptible to infectious agents, benign or severe, and to different types of cancers.
It has also been shown that stressed people suffer more frequently from colds.
So relax and do not overdo it!
In winter, we tend to confine ourselves to protect themselves from the cold, which is very bad for us.
Even when it’s cold, it’s important to ventilate your interior daily and get out and get fresh air.
Aerating to renew the air in its home helps to combat the pollution of its interior, especially microbes. Open the Windows for at least 10 minutes, preferably twice a day.
