In addition to having many health benefits, Lemon is also an ally that allows you to have whiter teeth. The citric acid it contains helps to combat tartar, that is to say, the thickening of the dental plaque, partly responsible for the yellowing of the teeth. In addition, Tartar can be the cause of tooth decay, gum disease such as gingivitis or periodontitis, and bad breath.
How to use the lemon?
Gently brush your teeth with a little freshly squeezed lemon juice and rinse thoroughly. Caution: Repeat the operation only once a week to the maximum, because if the acidity of the lemon removes the Tartar and the dental plaque, it can also damage the enamel of the teeth. In the same way, avoid consuming acidic foods such as coffee, sodas or products made from refined sugar or aspartame, for example.
Baking soda is a commonly recommended ingredient for whitening teeth. A true natural descaling agent, baking soda has soft abrasive properties that allow you to reduce the dental plaque and smooth the tooth enamel. It also has the advantage of cleaning the mouth and preventing the formation of cavities.
How to use it?
Once a week apply a little baking powder to the toothbrush instead of the toothpaste. Be careful not to use it too regularly as bicarbonate may also be responsible for a weakened enamel.
In addition to treating gingivitis, canker, abscesses and bad breath, the essential oil of tea-tree, also called Melaleuca, helps to sanitize the mouth and teeth. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties make this oil an excellent buccal antiseptic. Although this has not been scientifically proven, tea-tree essential oil would also contain active principles that would whiten teeth.
How to use it?
In mouthwash, gargle with half a glass of water in which a few drops of Melaleuca essential oil have been incorporated.
Apply 1 drop of this essential oil directly to the sore with a cotton swab, once a day until it disappears.
Apply 1 drop of tea-tree essential oil directly to the toothpaste and gently brush its teeth once a week only to not damage the enamel.
Precautions for use: Melaleuca essential oil can be irritating: test on a small portion of skin before using. In addition, the use of essential oils is not suitable for pregnant women or children.
Having a healthy mouth and white teeth also goes through optimal oral hygiene. Good tooth brushing removes the dental plaque, partly responsible for staining the teeth, and reduces the risk of tooth decay.
It is advisable to brush your teeth 2 to 3 times a day, ideally after each meal, for 3 real minutes. It is also recommended to use a toothbrush adapted to its needs, preferably soft or medium, because a hard toothbrush may damage the gums and eventually cause the teeth to be loosened.
It is advisable to first brush the upper jaw and then the lower one. Also think about brushing the gums towards the tooth, not the other way around or horizontally, that is, from one side of the mouth to the other. Don’t forget to use silk or floss on a daily basis.
The enamel of the teeth is slightly porous, i.e. it is composed of tiny gaps in which the fine particles of certain foods can penetrate. It is for this reason that the teeth are quickly colored after a consumption of blueberries or wine, for example.
All foods or colorful beverages tend to stain teeth, so it is advisable to avoid them or brush their teeth quickly after consuming them. Also avoid acidic foods, such as citrus fruits or refined sugar products that weaken enamel and increase its porosity.
On the other hand, chewing an apple at the end of the meal results in salivation which helps to combat the acidity and bacterial activity of the Streptococcus Mutans, (= bacteria forming part of the flora of the oral cavity). Not adhering to the teeth, the apple allows to do a small cleaning and thus limit the formation of cavities. Chewing also helps to massage the gums, which is effective against inflammation of these (= Gingivitis). If you do not have the opportunity to brush your teeth, for example, lunch at work, it is advisable to eat an apple. Attention, it does not replace the brushing of teeth!
