Just apply These Secret Tricks and Make Your Hair Look Thicker

Having long gorgeous locks has always been a dream of mine. I pictures of people with long hair and and immense amount of volume and get a pang of jealousy welling inside me.  Regardless how hard I try, there is no miracle cream that will make my hair start growing thicker, and I am (slowly) learning to accept that.

Now, listen here all you girls who have been blessed with awesomely thick hair…don’t be telling us thin-haired girls that we don’t know what we’re talking about! At least you can ask your hair stylist to razor some strands to make your hair lighter while getting a haircut.  Unless we want to shell out several hundred to a thousand dollars on extensions, we don’t really have an easy option to get the permanent hair we want.

But just because your hair can’t be naturally thick, doesn’t mean that you can’t make your hair look thicker! There are several hacks you can incorporate into your routine to get more volume in your hair.

 1. Use a thickening shampoo and conditioner

The first steps to take in creating thicker looking hair is choosing your shampoo and conditioner wisely.  I always though that I needed to be using an intense moisturizing shampoo and conditioner to keep my hair healthy, but it was actually weighing my hair down in the end.  With thin hair usually comes oiliness, so adding more moisture to your hair will only cause it to become more flat, which is the exact opposite thing you want.

I have been a huge fan of HASK hair products since my last post about them, which is why I was so excited to try out their Mint Almond Oil Thickening Shampoo and Conditioner. I have heard several times about using peppermint oil as a lip plumper, which is why I wasn’t surprised that HASK also uses peppermint oil in this line to invigorate the scalp, which makes your hair look fuller.  The first time I used the duo, I was brought back to the holidays because it has the most perfect candy cane scent ever.

After using the shampoo and conditioner, I definitely noticed added texture to my hair.  The Mint Almond Oil line also comes with a thickening spray, which I noticed gave my hair a little more oomph (is that how you spell it??). Like I said before, I love using HASK products because there aren’t any sulfates, parabens, or drying alcohols, which is wonderful to know when trying out a new product.

I would really only recommend this line for those with thin hair or hair that isn’t insanely dry.  Although this does give your hair some moisture, I feel it is really for those who don’t need too much additional help in that area.  However, HASK does have plenty of other lines for every hair type, and I would highly recommend trying one that fits your hair type out! They are also super affordable too–I have been able to find the line at both Target and Ulta.

 2. Know how to blow-dry

Some people suggest limiting how much you blow-dry your hair, while others give you tips on how to dry your locks.  Personally, I think the topic of blow-drying is relative to the individual because regardless of the kind of hair you have, everyone still behaves differently. For me, my hair gets so greasy if I shower at night, that it’s not possible for me to air dry my hair regularly.  Instead, I use a heat protectant and blow-dry my hair opposite of my normal part.  Therefore, when my hair is dry, I flip it back to my regular part and it now will have more volume than had I blow-dried on that side to begin with

 3. Opt for a round brush

Using a round brush instead of a paddle brush helps give your roots a little more lift

 4. Switch up your part

When you wear your hair on the same side all the time, it increases the tendency of your hair to lie flat on the part line.  Every once in a while, try switching up the side you part your hair on.  Since your hair isn’t use to laying a certain way, you will instantly have added height to your hair.

 5. Add a hair, skin, and nails vitamin to your diet

Your diet is also extremely important when it comes to a healthy appearance.  Ever heard the phrase, “You are what you eat?” Well, when you don’t put nutrients your body needs into it, then it can’t produce a healthy looking person.  To get good out, you absolutely need to put good in.  As a supplement to my diet, I take Biotin, which is a coenzyme and a B vitamin that plays a role in many things from hair and skin health to diabetes.  No, Biotin will not miraculously make your hair start to grow thicker. However, taking Biotin consistently will help it become stronger and less likely to break off, which is also a cause of hair looking limp and thin.

 6. Make your hair look thicker with curls

Whenever I know I am going to be out and about all day, I always curl my hair.  When my hair is straight, there is nothing that prevents my strands from sticking to my scalp, resulting in flat hair.  However, when I curl my hair, there is body at the scalp, so my hair is less likely to become flat (if at all) throughout the day.  I am an avid user of curling wands because my hair stays curly so much longer with this method than with a regular barrel iron.

Now go out and get that voluminous hair!
